8/26 August Open Day Last Sunday
Summary
1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Description
Join us as we welcome internationally known woodwind artist and jazz legend, Bennie Maupin, performing with his friends: David Arnay on the piano; Darek Oles on bass; and percussionists Kenny Sara and Eric McCain.
Bennie Maupin helped define the classic recordings of such greats as Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock. The multi-woodwind player has also recorded with Marion Brown, Chick Corea, Horace Silver, McCoy Tyner, Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard, Jack DeJohnette, Andrew Hill, Eddie Henderson and Woody Shaw, to name only a few.
David Arnay is curator of our World Music Series and performs as a soloist, sideman, and leader of his own jazz group. He teaches at USC Thornton School of Music and has released three CDs, most recently “8” (Studio V, 2013).
In addition, Tai-Ling Wong will be at the garden from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. with her wonderful Asian-inspired Citron clothing and gifts for sale.
Both are part of the garden’s Open Day Last Sunday and are free with admission. Picnics welcome. See a map and directions for parking HERE. Street parking is prohibited.
