12/09 Second Sunday and Matcha Special Event
Summary
Description
Second Sunday Open Days
Japanese gardens are designed primarily for quiet contemplation and introspection. Our Second Sundays offer visitors the serenity that has characterized Japanese gardens for centuries, and a respite from a hectic world.
As the holidays get under way, we invite you to participate in one of three matcha-making workshop. A certified Urasenke tea practitioner will teach you about the tea and its cultural history and how to whisk this jade-like powder into a perfectly frothy consistency to enjoy with traditional sweets.
Matcha has been drunk in East Asia as a stimulating beverage for about 1,000 years and its health benefits have made drinking this earthy tea one of the hottest trends today! Though invented in China, matcha really came into its own in Japan around the 13th century in Japanese Zen Buddhist temples and is the type of tea at the heart of the traditional Japanese tea ceremony.
Workshops will be 40 minutes each and will cost $15 per person (includes tea and sweets).
