Summary

A fun and fanciful evening in the garden for the whole family.

Description

Sold Out

Saturday, September 22
6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Celebrate the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox at the Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden. There will be wine to brighten the evening along with delicious appetizers and traditional treats such as Tsukimi Dango (moon viewing dumplings) and the indispensible and exotic Chinese moon cakes. Or, bring a picnic for your family if you like and have a whole dinner in the garden.

Appetizers: Vegetarian Spring Rolls, Chicken Satay, Mini Angus Beef Slider Burgers

A highlight of the evening will be a performance by Anthony Lam on the versatile Erhu, or "two-stringed Chinese violin".

Join in the lantern-making which is so popular with kids and adults alike, and take the opportunity to learn about the traditions surrounding both Japanese and Chinese celebrations of this event.  We will dedicate the newly restored hilltop path that completes the walk around the garden and, if we are very, very lucky--from the highest point on the path--we might see the evening's guest of honor among the stars.  If it's cloudy, rest assured, we will have plenty of reminders in the garden of the beautiful moon.

Whether you call it Tsukimi (Japanese "Moon Viewing"), a Mid-Autumn Festival (a harvest festival celebrated by the Chinese and Vietnamese), or the more western name, a Harvest Moon Celebration, this is the occasion when that celestial object shines brightly in the hearts of so many peoples around the world.
