Delight in this rare opportunity to interact with geisha in our Japanese garden and give them a warm welcome as they begin their West Coast Tour. The geisha tradition has endured through centuries, evolving and remaining one of the most iconic cultural treasures of Japan. While there are geisha elsewhere in the country, Kyoto is uniquely identified with geisha life. There, young women live and train for many years to become professional entertainers and social companions, highly skilled in the arts of conversation, music, dance, literature and tea ceremony.

Enjoy the beauty and artistry of Japan's most famous and historical entertainers as three geisha give two performances of traditional music and dancing in the Niko-an Teahouse. Experience the essence of omotenashi, the abstract concept of both visible and invisible hospitality in Japanese culture.

Wine, sake and an exquisite selection of appetizers and desserts catered by local chef, Casey Felton who, with her partner, Armen Piskoulian, has dazzled diners with their new Hollywood restaurant Banh Oui (Reviews).

We will also have our always popular silent auction featuring Japanese art treasures and gift certificates to local restaurants, shops and fun activities. To top off the event, opening that night in En Gallery, is an exciting new exhibition of abstract ink paintings by Japanese artist, Keiko Arai.

This event is part of The Japan Foundation's 2019 West Coast Tour of Real Geisha, Real Women.

Proceeds from this event will go to support the garden, its community outreach, and cultural and educational mission.
